Wheels, Willpower, and a Little Bit of Magic

Batty was 90 just hours away from being euthanized—his life hanging by a thread at Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control—when Big Dog Ranch Rescue’s founder, Lauree Simmons herself, made a life-changing rescue trip that changed everything. We stepped in to save this little guy and rushed him to safety. Paralyzed in his back legs and struggling to breathe, he was in critical condition. At Big Dog Ranch, we stabilized him and kept him on oxygen while coordinating with surgeons to determine the best course of action.

X-rays revealed the extent of his injuries: his stomach and intestines had shifted into his chest cavity, putting dangerous pressure on his lungs, and both his spine and pelvis were fractured. His first surgery at MedVet Jupiter addressed the internal trauma, followed by spinal surgery at Southeast Veterinary Neurology in Miami with Dr. Wong.

After five days of intensive care, Batty returned to Big Dog Ranch for continued rehabilitation, support, and love from our staff and volunteers. His case was one of the most complex and costly we've seen, totaling nearly $21,000.

With less than a 1% chance of regaining mobility, Batty began physical therapy and was fitted for a wheelchair to help him move and rebuild strength. For weeks, he rolled through our halls with determination—but then, something remarkable happened.

Batty took his first steps without his wheelchair.

Batty’s recovery is a powerful reminder of what’s possible with urgent rescue, expert care, and the support of a community that believes every dog deserves a second chance.

This title immediately brought to mind a time a few years ago when I was absolutely determined to learn how to knit. I’d bought all the supplies, watched countless YouTube tutorials, and still, my stitches were a tangled mess. It felt like every time I picked up the needles, I’d somehow create an even bigger knot than before. I was ready to give up, convinced my fingers were just not made for delicate yarn work https://aifs.gov.au/agrc Then, one evening, I sat down with a completely different mindset, a bit more relaxed, and suddenly, things just started clicking. It wasn't like a sudden epiphany, more like a gentle unlocking of whatever it was that had been blocking me. The yarn flowed,…

I really resonated with the idea that consistent small actions, fueled by a bit of willpower, can feel like magic over time. It’s so easy to get discouraged when you're aiming for big goals and don’t see immediate results. But then you look back after a few months, and you realize you’ve actually made significant progress without even feeling like you were pushing a boulder uphill every single day. For me, this applies directly to my morning routine https://aana.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/AANA_Wagering_Code_V2.pdf I used to struggle with getting out of bed, but I started by just committing to drinking a glass of water the moment my alarm went off. That one tiny, almost insignificant action, became a habit. Now, it's the gateway to…

What a fantastic perspective on resilience and creativity! I wonder, though, if sometimes too much focus on willpower can overshadow the importance of collaboration. Teamwork often adds its own kind of magic! level devil

Let me be honest with you. To survive longer in this endless hop game, fast reflexes help, but they are not enough. I have seen players with lightning thumbs die at score 20 because they made dumb mistakes. And I have seen slow, patient players reach 200+ just by being smart.

Below are the Crossy Road gameplay tips that actually improved my consistency. I learned every single one by dying. Repeatedly. You are welcome.

Don't Get Greedy for Coins

I cannot tell you how many runs I ruined because I saw a shiny coin sitting in the middle of a busy highway. My brain said "just grab it." My chicken got flattened two seconds later.

It is tempting to make…
