Changing the Outcome for California’s Dogs

Big Dog Ranch Rescue is expanding its lifesaving operations.

Across California, dogs are facing an urgent crisis. California currently has one of the highest rates of shelter euthanasia in the nation, as overcrowded shelters struggle with limited space and resources. Too many healthy and adoptable dogs are at risk of losing their lives simply because there is nowhere for them to go.

For dogs living on the streets, the dangers can be even greater.

On the streets of Los Angeles’ Skid Row, some dogs are facing an especially disturbing reality. Animal welfare advocates working in the area have reported cases of dogs being exposed to dangerous street drugs, with dogs being used to test drugs to determine whether they are contaminated with substances such as fentanyl. Rescuers have reported dogs overdosing and suffering the devastating consequences of drug exposure.

Access to consistent veterinary care, proper shelter, food, and safety can also be limited. While many people experiencing homelessness deeply care for their animals, reports of neglect, illegal breeding, drug exposure, and abuse demonstrate the serious dangers some dogs on Skid Row face.

Big Dog Ranch Rescue is answering the call for help.

As the largest cage-free, no-kill dog rescue in the United States, we are expanding our lifesaving operations in California to help overcrowded shelters, rescue vulnerable dogs, and give them the second chances they deserve.

Bringing a Proven Rescue Model to California

Having saved more than 93,000 lives, Big Dog Ranch Rescue has developed a highly effective and scalable approach to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs in need.

Now, we are bringing that experience directly to California.

By working alongside shelters and rescue partners, BDRR can pull vulnerable dogs from euthanasia lists and overcrowded facilities and bring them into our care. In doing so, we also help create much-needed space for shelters to continue saving other animals in their communities.

Our goal is to help change the outcome for California’s dogs.

334 Dogs and 334 New Beginnings

The work has already begun.

To date, Big Dog Ranch Rescue has rescued 334 dogs from California, giving each of them an opportunity to leave uncertainty behind and begin again.

But getting a dog to safety is only the beginning.

Rescue. Rehabilitate. Rehome.

When these dogs arrive in our care, each one receives the individualized support they need to move forward. For some, that means medical treatment. For others, it means nutritious meals, socialization, training, patience, and simply learning what it feels like to be safe.

Our teams give each dog the time and care necessary to heal physically and emotionally. Then comes the moment we work toward from the very beginning: finding them a loving home.

Every dog successfully rehabilitated and adopted represents another life changed and another step toward our goal of ending dog homelessness.

Expanding Our Lifesaving Reach

Initial, critical support has allowed Big Dog Ranch Rescue to launch this expansion. But with shelters across California continuing to plead for help and dogs remaining at risk, there is much more work ahead.

The challenges fa

cing California’s dogs cannot be solved by one rescue trip or one organization. Meaningful change requires rescues, shelters, communities, adopters, donors, and advocates working together.

For Big Dog Ranch Rescue, 334 dogs rescued from California is only the beginning.

With continued support, we can expand our presence, reach more dogs in danger, provide the medical care and rehabilitation they need, and ultimately place more dogs into loving homes.

Rescue. Rehabilitate. Educate. And never stop fighting to give every dog a loving and safe place to call home.

The need in California is urgent, and we cannot do it alone. Your support can help Big Dog Ranch Rescue expand our lifesaving presence in California, reach more dogs in danger, and give them the second chances they deserve.

There are many ways you can be part of this lifesaving mission:

Donate: Your support will help us secure a location and build a cage-free rescue facility with expansive play yards and a veterinary healing center, giving rescued dogs the space and care they need to recover and thrive.

Become a Foster Parent: Open your home to a dog in need. Fostering helps create space in overcrowded shelters while giving dogs a safe place to stay as they prepare for adoption.

Adopt: Every adoption changes a life and creates space for another dog in need. By adopting, you give a rescue dog the opportunity to start again while helping us continue saving others.

Share Our Story: Help us spread the word. Host a fundraiser, share our mission with friends and family, or encourage your business and community contacts to support Big Dog Ranch Rescue.

Together, we can change the future for California’s dogs, one life at a time.
