This is so heartbreaking. It immediately brought to mind a situation a few years ago when a local animal shelter I volunteered with had to abruptly close its doors due to funding issues. We had so many animals that needed rehoming, and suddenly there was no official record of their adoption status or medical history readily available for potential new families https://www.deakin.edu.au/ It was chaos trying to manually track everything and ensure these precious animals found safe, loving homes.
