How to Feed Your rescue Dog

How to Ensure They Eat Healthily

by Mark Webster

Rescue dogs are often malnourished, have health problems or just have not been properly fed. If you have a rescue dog in your life, it is important that you know how to feed them so they can get all of the nutrients they need to thrive. A happy, healthy dog is a great joy but only if they are fed well...

A single dog with a healthy appetite can demolish a complete pet food bag in a matter of days. If you have more than one dog, they will eat all of the food in even less time. The best way to prevent your pet from eating too much food is to measure out the portions using a dog bowl and to ensure that your pet eats at the appropriate time.

If you have a puppy, they will need more than just one type of food. Puppy food should be given until the pup is roughly 12 months old, at which point it can move onto an adult diet. If you believe your dog has special health needs or dietary requirements, speak to your vet about specialist foods and feeding methods.

Just like people, dogs prefer some types of foods over others. Some dogs enjoy sugary snacks while others love meatier meals such as bits of chicken. Determining what kind of food your dog likes can take time but then you can stock up on their favourite treats and always have some on hand.

It is important to note that while some dogs love human food, others simply cannot stomach it and will refuse to eat it at all. Always check with your vet before giving your dog any type of food that they may not be used to eating and ensure you do not overfeed them on table scraps!

There are many ways in which you can ensure that you feed your pet the right kind of nutrients. One way is to always look for the words 'complete' or 'balanced' on a packet of dog food, ensuring that this meets government standards. Always store dry dog food in airtight containers so rodents and other pests do not get into it...

If you have an older rescue dog who does not seem interested in food, do not give up on them and ensure they get as much attention and love as possible. If your dog is too old to eat by themselves, try hand feeding them or using a spoon to feed them their meals.

Stay consistent with the times you feed your pet and never leave food out for more than an hour as this can attract rodents and insects such as ants. When it comes to treats, only give these when necessary and shop around for those that contain less fat and sugar.

With some dedication and careful planning, you can provide your rescue dog with all of the nutrients they need!

Some dogs need breed-specific dog food – so make sure to do some research beforehand.

Some dogs need a special diet that cannot be formed from just their regular dog food. As such, it is important that you look for ingredients that are specific to your breed and speak to a vet about the best dog food for their needs. Your breeder should also be able to provide you with advice as to what kind of dog food you should use for your breed.

Giving a rescue dog a loving home can make all the difference in the world but only if they are cared for properly! If you have decided

And make sure to always have a treat on hand for your best friend! Some of the best healthy treats to provide as a reward are:

1) Dried fruit, such as dried apricots

2) Some of your dog's regular kibble

3) A part of a banana or apple.

4) Your dog's favourite vegetables.

5) A small piece of cheese or a slice of ham.

If you have time to prepare home-cooked meals for your dog, ensure you speak with a vet first about what kind of recipes would be best for their age.

Make sure that you do not give them too many treats at once and try rotating these if they are particularly tasty to your dog!

By providing a balanced diet and love, you can ensure that your favourite pet is healthy and happy!
