Why We’re Rescuing Dogs From the Border

It all started when our friends at Blueline Moving were participating in a volunteer cleanup effort at the Texas-Mexico border. They were approached directly by the National Guard who were seeking assistance from rescues who may be able to help with the growing issue of abandoned and stray dogs along the border.

When we learned about the number of abandoned dogs at the Texas-Mexico, we knew we had to step in and help in any capacity possible.

Specifically at the Rio Grande River at Eagle Pass, immigrants are crossing the river and getting on buses to enter into the United States, only to leave their pets behind due to lack of resources. These pets are then left to fend for themselves with no food, water, or protection.

By ramping up our rescue efforts on the Texas-Mexico border, we are giving a voice to the voiceless and saving these precious souls who cannot save themselves.

We Can’t Do It Alone

On an annual basis, nearly 2 million dogs are euthanized in county shelters. This year, as a result of inflation and the highest owner-surrender rates every recorded in rescue history, it is projected that nearly 10 million dogs will be euthanized this year.

It is believed that nearly 50,000 dogs will need rescuing along the Mexico border in the coming year. A number that only grows as these dogs reproduce and are left without being spayed or neutered.

By opening our new location in Alabama, we have been able to double our rescue capacity. But the growing number of dogs on the border is only contributing to this number. This is why we need your help to support these rescue missions at the Texas-Mexico border so that we can keep up with our rescues on a local level, but also across the United States.
