Big and small, we save them all!

Our Board of Directors

Big Dog Ranch Rescue is fortunate to have an active, all-volunteer Board of Directors whose members devote many hours and expertise to the organization.

Lauree Simmons, President

Lauree is the President of Simmons Building Corporation and Simmons Interiors Group and is a designer and licensed general contractor of high-end homes. Her other passion is rescuing dogs, which she began as a Weimaraner rescuer in Florida about six years ago.  Her goal is to save as many adoptable dogs from shelters, abuse situations and unfortunate circumstances as possible by finding them, sheltering them, and ultimately placing them in loving Forever Homes.

Susan Baker, DVM, Medical Director

Dr. Susan M. Baker received her degree in veterinary medicine at the University of Florida in 1985 and has been actively practicing in Palm Beach County since graduation. Her special interests are in avian medicine, endoscopy, and orthopedics. Dr. Baker is a native Floridian and a past president of the Palm Beach Veterinary Society. She has 15 children (only 2 are human!). Dr Baker also writes a column for the Palm Beach Post.

Farrah Fugett-Mullen

Farrah is a trial attorney in Palm Beach County and brings her legal knowledge and experience to our organization. She has been involved with volunteer work for over a decade and has been a volunteer with Big Dog Ranch Rescue for the last two years. Her commitment to our rescue extends beyond her Board duties, to include assisting with daily operations at the ranch, regular transport of our rescue dogs to and from adoption events, and fostering rescue dogs.

Danny Glassman

Danny is an attorney with the law firm of Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart, P.A. where he focuses his practice in the areas of tax and estate planning. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for Big Dog Ranch Rescue, Danny is actively involved with events for the rescue and giving dogs that have had particularly difficult experiences special attention and love.  He regularly takes dogs out for special trips to the beach and even outside dining at local restaurants to show dogs love while helping them find their forever homes.

Ashley Hensarling

Ashley has been a dog lover her entire life.  She has been a part of Big Dog Ranch Rescue since 2010. Since the time Ashley has been with BDRR, she has discovered her passion for saving dogs. She has been on extreme rescue missions, assisted with various fundraisers, and has fostered countless dogs. She regularly speaks to schools and different businesses to educate others about dog rescue. Ashley graduated Florida Atlantic University with a BS in Political Science. She has worked internatinoally in real estate development, where she oversaw multi-million dollar accounts.  Eventually, she moved on to head the public relations team in Beijing, China.

Melanie Lehmann

Melanie began volunteering with our Big Dog Ranch Rescue in February, 2011 after adopting her second Weimaraner from us.  She has been with Kellogg & Kimsey, Inc., a commercial General Contractor for over 26 years, where she serves as the Director of Safety and Health and works throughout the Southeast US. Because of her employment experience, Melanie has had considerable input in the implementation and adherence to OSHA requirements at the shelter, as well as emergency planning and safety.  She is very active as a foster, typically housing between three and seven rescue dogs (in addition to her own four adopted rescues), as well as handling fundraising and adoption efforts on the west coast of Florida.  Melanie’s involvement, and that of the other west coast volunteers, enables BDRR to expound on its ability to save and extend adoptions to other areas of Florida, and create more of a statewide presence.

Bev Lewis

Bev began as a volunteer with Big Dog Ranch Rescue two years ago and has seen the rescue grow and evolve in many ways. With over 20 years of administrative experience, Bev found her niche helping to organize and maintain BDRR’s PetPoint shelter database. She provides training and assistance to others as the organization grows.  Bev continues to support and connect with volunteer professional animal photographers and assists in coordination of the fostering program.
